Star Trek by Gene Roddenberry7/3/2023 ![]() ![]() Paramount officially announced it was developing a new TV series for the franchise in 1986, at which point the original actors were too expensive to cast as a result, a whole new Enterprise crew was to be introduced. TOS developed a strong cult following in syndication after the show ended in 1969, which Paramount leveraged into a series of successful (to varying degrees) movies, starting with Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979). Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek: The Original Series, and he had a clear vision for the sequel series The Next Generation. Although Roddenberry's attitude reportedly changed before the TV legend's death in 1991, there was a period during the filming of TNG when Picard felt that Roddenberry didn't want him in the role. Today, Patrick Stewart's Star Trek: The Next Generationcharacter Captain Jean-Luc Picard is arguably Star Trek's most beloved captain however, Gene Roddenberry, the creator of the Star Trek franchise, hated Stewart's casting. ![]()

The radetzky march book7/3/2023 ![]() ![]() In 1859, the Austrian Empire (1804–67) was fighting the Second War of Italian Independence (29 April – 11 July 1859), against French and Italian belligerents: Napoleon III of France, the Emperor of the French, and the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. Radetzky March relates the stories of three generations of the Trotta family, professional Austro-Hungarian soldiers and career bureaucrats of Slovenian origin - from their zenith during the empire to the nadir and breakup of that world during and after the First World War. The novel was published in English translation in 1933, and in a new, more literal, translation in 1995. Roth continues his account of the Trotta family to the time of the Anschluss in his The Emperor's Tomb ( Kapuzinergruft, 1938). ![]() Radetzkymarsch is an early example of a story that features the recurring participation of a historical figure, in this case the Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria (1830–1916). Radetzky March ( German: Radetzkymarsch) is a 1932 family saga novel by Joseph Roth chronicling the decline and fall of Austria-Hungary via the story of the Trotta family. 978-1-58567-326-1 (English translation by Joachim Neugroschel) ![]() Treasure hunters book order7/2/2023 ![]() When the Kidds are invited to compete with the Colliers for the title of “The World’s Greatest Treasure Hunting Kids,” they jump at the chance to show the world what real treasure hunting looks like.īut with rumors swirling of a family mistake made by the Kidds’ great-grandfather years ago, the Kidds discover that fame and glory aren’t the only things on the line. ![]() ![]() So they aren’t happy when the Collier Kids (as in Nathan Collier, the Kidds’s nemesis) start treasure hunting for the camera, more focused on looking good and selling ads for their streaming show than actually recovering treasure. On Mother’s Day, we had just finished the book of Esther, so I was hopeful. Rather than preaching topically, this football pastor had decided that the entire church (which may not be fully of mega-church size, but is by no means small) would read through the Bible together in a year, like you do, and he would pull the sermons from our reading assignments. That just happens to be something about which I tend to get pissed off at churches. ![]() In fact, this book brings up a couple of stories I have about churches, so I should probably say as a disclaimer that Gaudy Night is not religious at all in its topic, but deals mostly with the role of women in society. ![]() I say all of this because the ultimate falling-out I had with the pastor of that church reflects the central conflict of the great and wonderful mystery story, Gaudy Night, so I’m going to use this review as a venue to air my grievances, which will hopefully be entertaining enough that you can bear with me. Sometimes it’s better to go with what you know, even if it’s very little. When I say it now it doesn’t sound like a very good idea, but I did a lot of things at that time that sound stupid now. A couple of years ago I thought (as a gesture to God saying something like, “Hey, we don’t disagree about everything and anyway what do I know about life?”) that I would start going to a certain church where the pastor was an ex-football star. ![]() Heat wave tj klune release date7/2/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() I laughed, I cried, and I had a smile on my face the entire time I was reading it. “The most down-to-earth book about superheroes I've ever read.
